In late 2012, GDEAP started an educational project called the “Science Text Book Project” geared towards encouraging students at the primary schools to get a stronger foundation in science subjects. The small project was to encourage students who have by means of performance exhibited strong interests in science subjects to gain more knowledge with the availability of key texts to help develop their minds. In order to encourage both the teachers and students, in April 2013, GDEAP provided some 200 key science textbooks (Student and Teachers Editions) for a community School: Government Primary School Fonege in Wabane Sub Division in the South West Region of Cameroon. The text books were provided jointly by purchases made by GDEAP Executive Director, and a consignment of selected science textbooks which were donated and shipped to GDEAP through the network of our American friends. Meritorious students who performed well in science subjects from Classes one to seven were each awarded a science text book containing all three combined fields of science for primary education. Each student received a key text in Physical Science, Life Science & Earth Science. The rest of the books were donated for reference purposes to the school. GDEAP is hoping to liaise up with more partners to acquire more relevant books that can eventually be directed towards good courses such as a community library for any grassroots community that is able to host such a structure which can serve many more students and the population as a whole.
